Sale Savvy

Our Guest Blogger pieces seem to be taking you by storm! We've had great feedback to the pieces by Lorraine, Johnny and Carol-Anne (particularly her pet turkey!)

Well, today we've got the savviest of the savvy, the fabalous fashionista, the lovely Sarah Pollard from the brilliant sale-savvy.com! Do have a look if you're interested in value, restaurants, fashion and sales, cos she's got it all! She's even got tips on how best to be sale savvy here!

So Sarah, give us a bit about your background, and how you got started in the online world?

Hi there! Well, I started blogging about sales firstly on Facebook some time late in May 2010 just for a bit of fun and mainly to inform friends of sales, discounts and current offers that were on at the time. I always found that I knew how to get the best deals and always found myself discussing it with friends. Anyway, I thought why not start a proper blog so everyone else can be in the know too…. so Sale Savvy was born in June 2010. I thought it was the perfect time to set up a sales blog due to the onset of the recession. People want to spend their money more wisely and noone wants to nor can afford to pay full price these days!

Darn right there Sarah, and we can testify to that! Our Special Offers area has never been so hot.

I work full time as an accountant so I guess it’s kind of in my make up to be pretty savvy with money. Blogging is an outlet for my love of fashion, beauty and dining out plus I love a bargain! I am delighted that Sale Savvy helps save other people money too! Hopefully one day it’ll be the first stop for people in Ireland looking to pick up a bargain!

We reckon it will be sooner rather than later! Anyway, moving on to food, what are your fave lunch spots?

Most days I have soup for lunch and every Friday myself and the girls from work go out for a chicken curry. My fave place to have a cheap lunch is at Milano as I have a card which gives me 2 for 1 on mains. Other good cheap eats are Wagamama’s and Mao. (You'll be liking our weekly comp then Sarah!) For a special treat, the Avoca restaurant in Wicklow is beautiful on a sunny day and the food is fab! However, nothing beats an alfresco lunch eating fish and chips and watching the waves at Manly Beach in Sydney. The Lunch spot I want to keep going back to is Peploes in Dublin City Centre. The atmosphere is always buzzing and the food is excellent.

Mylunch.ie has finally given lunch the attention it deserves! My pick on your site at the moment is the Café Des Irelandais 2 for 1 lunch offer, the Mao lunch special for €9.75 including a drink and the Salon des Saveurs voucher offer for 3 courses for €18.95 including a glass of Prosecco.

Thanks for the praise Sarah, we do try *bats eylashes*! What are your thoughts on the Dublin food scene?

The food scene is pretty good in Dublin and restaurants are always buzzing and new ones are always opening so there’s always a good excuse to try something new! Hopefully in the future there’ll be more budget conscious offerings on things like Sushi and Thai food. My fave regular deal at the moment is the dine in for two at Marks and Spencer. The paella and profiteroles are back on the menu again so I am in heaven!

We're a big fan of the M&S offer too! And what about your cookery talents?!

I guess you could call me a bit of a lazy cook. I have sporadic moments of brilliance thinking I can cook up a storm… some times it works and other times it doesn’t. The best dishes I cook regularly which seem to work are my Chicken Massaman Curry and Minced Beef Wellington (both my hubby’s faves!).

Ah what a romantic! So tell us, to finish off, we always ask the question of your guilty treats! As the savviest of the savvy, what do you like to treat yourself to?

I normally have a pretty good diet during the week and am slightly bold at the weekends! I guess the night after a few drinks I would often have Chinese and maybe a big greasy brunch. Besides that I love the Balsamic Sensations crisps and Bounty chocolate bars.

Ah, now they're classy naughty food choices right there! Thanks for the chat Sarah, much obliged!
