It's been a tough and perilous year for many restaurants, with harsh Winter winds, and the even more harsh economic chill blowing throughout the sector, many across the country have found it tough to keep proiding the food that makes this country famous.
Having opened exactly one year ago today, Gotham South in Stilorgan could be counted as one of these, but not for the reasons you may be thinking! Anyway, more on that later! If you haven't heard of Gotham, here's a little about what they do!
A casual eatery serving good food in a laid back environment, Gotham has two branches in Dublin, one in South Anne St (Gotham Cafe) and one in Stilorgan (Gotham South). Praised continiously for their friendly environment in both branches, Gotham's owners pride themselves on a healthy mix of m
odern dishes, and favourites include delicious ciabattas, passionate pastas and more!
However, if you've ever been to either of the Gotham's you'll no doubt know about their pizzas! Stoned baked in ovens sourced from Washington State in America, these babies are melt in your mouth delicious (try the "Spanish Harlem"!).
But, don't take our word for it, Gotham have recently been voted the best pizza in Ireland at the Catering Exhibition 2011 (Catex), and will go on to represent Ireland in the world's this year too, plus, as you probably already know, Brian O Driscoll and Amy are big fans too, having recently been spotted eating out on Valentines Day in town!
So, for the last year, the South branch has been feeding hungry bellies from nearby Sandyford and Stilorgan, but this service was interrupted slightly at the end of 2010, with an unfortunate fire. In a stroke of bad luck, a business next door had a fire, which spread to Gotham, and they had to be closed for a month or two to get everything back to the highest standards. Now, however, they're back open for a while, and back to providing one of the best lunch options in South Dublin. (Owner Jackie says they're extra careful with the wood burning ovens though!)
