Streetfeast is back!
Streetfeast is back!
(Date:03 August 2011)
This time last year, we brought you news of a fab new idea from some crazy young go getters, Streetfeast!
The idea behind Streetfeast was, and is, a day of local lunches across Ireland, hosted by you and your neighbours, in an effort to get communities together, and get people meeting those that live nearby.
A great idea, and one which was very well supported across the nation, with 33 feasts held across the island.
People obviously recognised what a great excuse it was to eat great food, celebrate your local community and meet new people who live near you, and the media did too, with radio stations, newspapers and even T.V. noticing the Streetfeast phenomenon!
Well, the show must go on, and Streetfeast is back with a bang this year! August 28th will see people taking to the streets with homemade produce, picninc blankets, perhaps a glass of wine or two, and of course an open mind with regards meeting those that live around them!
There are loads of ways that you can get involved, from running your own, to attending one of the many feasts that will be held across our fair land.
Why not get your local community centre in on the act and ask them to have a day of fun! Feasts around you will start popping up on the site when people decide to run them, so stay tuned to there!
But wait, there's more! To launch the Feast, today (Wed 3rd August), just like last year, the organisers will be holding a very special "Flashfeast" free lunch somewhere in Dublin City Centre! This will invove free food and great fun, and there will also be some newspaper cameras there too we'd wager!
The secret locatoin will be announced on the Streetfeast Facebook and Twitter page an hour before lunchtime, so take a look there to get the lowdown! It will truly be a flash feast, as trestle tables, bunting and a colourful spread of delicious food suddenly appear, offering 40 lucky passers-by the chance to dine in style, and you can also bring your own food, potluck style if you wish!
Do stay tuned today before lunchtime, and say hello if you spot us there! We'll be the ones scoffing all the free food!!
Oh, and here's a Youtube video for those of you that like that sort of thing!
