(Date:13 June 2011)
It's Monday so we've your weekly round up of what all the cool kids will be chatting about come lunchtime! This is the time of the week when you're tired after a long weekend, and being cornered by some boring co-worker in the tea room or at the watercooler is a nightmare, so we're giving you loads of options for small talk! We're packed out this week!
Abstract Art
It isn’t everybody’s cup of tea, but a forthcoming exhibition at one New York gallery is bit more unusual than most. The artist is four years old.
The youngest professional painter in the world, Aelita Andre has been painting since she was in nappies and incorporates feathers, leaves, twigs, and toys into her paintings. The Agora Gallery describes the child’s art as “compelling” for its lightness and “carefree approach". Andre has produce over 250 paintings to date, one of which fetched over €20,000 at a sale in Hong Kong last year.
Honeymooning in Glastonbury
Lilly allen married boyfriend Sam Cooper on Saturday, with her new husband revealing after the ceremony that the newlyweds are also expecting a baby. The 33-year-old groom told guests during his wedding speech that Lily is 16 weeks pregnant, and that the pair have seen a scan of the baby.
A 12-year-old boy was chosen to be the disc jockey at the wedding. Ted Lavender, who plays under the name Ted at the Controls, entertained guests with his selection of ska and reggae tunes at the celebrations in Gloucestershire. He only started DJing a year ago and now practises mixing his favourite vinyl on decks in his bedroom.
Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis had previously revealed the pair would be spending their honeymoon at the festival, but pregnant Lily will still be able to rest while enjoying the camping experience. Lily, Sam and a select group of friends and family will apparently be staying in the festival's luxury camping area, in two £1000 teepees.
Books of condolence for Brian Lenihan
A book of condolence for the late Brian Lenihan opened today at Government Buildings in Dublin. Books are also open in the Civic Offices in Athlone and the constituency office of Fianna Fail TD Robert Troy in Mullingar.
He will be buried tomorrow in a private ceremony in St David’s Church graveyard in Kilsallaghan after 11am Mass.
Play to the Whistle
Loris Angeli, goalkeeper for Italian seventh-tier side Dro, cost his team promotion by being too quick off the mark in celebrating a sudden death penalty miss by the opposition. He was initially delighted when he watched Termeno’s Michael Palma hit his spot kick into the crossbar with the scores level at 4-4. As the disconsolate Palma fell to his feet, Angeli wheeled away in celebration awaiting the plaudits of his team-mates, but the ball came back down to earth and with tremendous backspin creeped over the line.
The goal correctly stood and when Dro’s final penalty was saved it meant Termeno were then the ones promoted.
